A medieval tale set in the continent of Ivalice, Vagrant Story is a dungeon-crawling gothic adventure set in the catacombs beneath the city of Leá Monde. Players take control of Ashley Riot, a specialized knight called a Riskbreaker, who is in pursuit of the mysterious Sydney Losstarot.
The game is played out in 3D dungeon spaces from an overhead view, with enemy encounters where the player can target specific enemy body parts before executing attacks. Much of the story is told using detailed cutscenes with dynamic camera angles, expressive text, and environmental effects not typically seen on the original PlayStation.
