UPDATE: The Kickstarter campaign for Infinity Knights: Xross launched as planned on June 25th and, as of June 27th, has reached over $32,000 USD of its $36,696 goal with over 500 backers so far. The game raised $25,000 in less than 16 hours.
Australia-based indie developer Timesea Studio has announced Infinity Knights: Xross, a couch co-op action RPG for up to three players, inspired by classic titles from the ’90s pixel art era. The title is planned for release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in late 2025. If you want to give your support, Timesea Studio will launch a Kickstarter campaign on June 25th.
For now, here’s the announcement trailer.
Does the trailer music sound similar to some old titles you’ve played? Well, that’s because “Going to the Eternal” is by Hiroki Kikuta, who is on board to compose the soundtrack for Infinity Knights: Xross. For those who aren’t good with recalling names, he is the composer of beloved titles such as Secret of Mana, Indivisible, Soukaigi, and Koudelka.
On first impression, Infinity Knights: Xross is clearly a love letter to classic RPG fans. It’s being developed by three brothers who share a passion for video games like Dark Cloud, Final Fantasy XI, and the Mana series. Don’t be fooled by the old-school exterior, though; Infinity Knights: Xross will incorporate some modern features into its gameplay.
Saxon Goodrick, one of the three brothers that make up Timesea Studio, had this to say about the game.
There always seemed to be a missing pixel game from our childhood that involved dynamically evolving and strategic, active combat, and we hope to bring that to our audiences through Infinity Knights: Xross! We were inspired by titles such as Dark Cloud, Final Fantasy XI, and the Mana series to create something that combined the best parts of all our favorite games. We are genuinely excited to use our wealth of gaming experience to create a new, old-school RPG with the benefits of modern qualities of life.
