Riviera: The Promised Land was originally released in Japan in 2002, exclusive to the WonderSwan Color. The West would not see a localized release until June 2005, when Riviera was released for the Game Boy Advance. RPGFan has no less than three reviews for this title, with the most recent being Patrick Gann’s review of the PlayStation Portable port. Patrick thought there were better games from Sting — such as Dept. Heaven series follow-up Yggdra Union — and didn’t think the game worthy of a replay for those who had experienced the GBA version, ultimately deeming the PSP port “unnecessary.” Patrick did, however, have some praise for the addition of quality voice acting, while also enjoying the soundtrack.
We are truly in the era of the remaster, with what feels like an endless stream of remakes, remasters, and remakesters. Check out RPGFan’s recent coverage of the various summer games events, and read about some of the exciting re-releases coming to modern platforms over the coming months.
Riviera: The Promised Land Remaster comes to Steam on July 17th. Currently, there is no word on whether or not the Nintendo Switch or mobile versions will be localized.
