Capcom has announced that their fantasy RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold 2.5 million copies globally since its launch on March 22nd—less than two weeks ago. Beyond the game’s initial sales, Capcom also announced that the series’ lifetime sales have surpassed 10 million copies.
To give those numbers context, Dragon’s Dogma sold 1.05 million copies in its first month in 2012. Its sequel has now doubled those numbers handily.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 anchors players in a medieval fantasy world where they play as a hero known as the Arisen. With their heart stolen by a dragon, they must venture forth between two kingdoms—Vermund and Battahl—to understand their place in the world. Accompanied by summonable AI companions known as Pawns, players can choose from ten different vocations to fight mythological creatures in real-time through tight swordplay or casting lightning from the heavens.

As someone fond of the first game and is slowly chipping his way through the second, it warms my heart that it seems to have succeeded in a short timeframe.
